Aspenwood Holiday Cottage overlooking Loch Ness is situated midway down the southern shore of Loch Ness between the villages of Dores and Foyers. It is about 16 miles from the city of Inverness on the east coast and about the same distance to Fort Augustus at the western end of Loch Ness. Therefore it is located in an ideal position for a variety of day trips to the east and west coasts. Visit historic castles in the area, Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness, Dunrobin Castle on the east coast, famous Cawdor Castle of 'Macbeth' acclaim, Eilean Donan Castle on the road to the beautiful romantic Isle of Skye. The west coast offers truly magnificent scenery with stunning sandy beaches hidden in secluded coves and bays. For fantastic mountain scenery visit the Ben Nevis Range or journey up the Cairngorm Mountains on the exhilarating funicular railway. The Highlands of Scotland has some of the most spectacular scenery which you can enjoy while staying at Aspenwood Cottage....a 'home from home' to return to after a day out as many guests have told us.

Various wildlife abound in the woodland of Farigaig Forest around the cottage. You will have the chance to see the cheeky red squirrels every day although the badgers, pine martens, brown hare and deer and the occasional magnificent stag are a little more elusive. The fence outside the lounge window has nut feeders and suet balls which are used daily by a great variety of birds as well as the squirrels. Binoculars and bird books and various wildlife books are available. Watch out for the sparrowhawk and the fish-loving osprey from April through to August and watch it dive into Loch Ness. Visit the famous Boat of Garten Osprey Centre especially in the breeding season.The nature reserve of Ruthven RSPB is a short drive away. Watch the dolphins and seals in the Moray Firth at Chanonry Point on the nearby Black Isle.

Looking across Loch Ness from the cottage you can clearly see the highest mountain peak on the  lochside 'Mealfuarvonie' which rises to 2,284 ft above sea level and is covered in snow during the winter months. There is always a stunning panoramic view of Loch Ness from the private decking accessed from both the master bedroom and the lounge. Come and watch the sun set from the comfort of the lounge or sit out on the private decking with a wee dram at the end of the day and thoroughly relax. Aspenwood really does offer a quiet and secluded haven for a truly peaceful holiday...forget work for a while and just relax.

Although the holiday cottage is situated in an unfenced and ungated environment we always welcome two well behaved dogs. Knowing how much our guests are really concerned about their dogs in unknown surroundings we do provide a dog gate inside the cottage for everyone's peace of mind. There are some wonderful walks for you and your dogs to enjoy from the doorstep of the cottage. Stroll down the grass track from the cottage to the secluded Loch Ness beach just a short distance away and dip your toes in the cool waters and make a wish. We provide chairs, benches and tables on this wee beach to help you relax and maybe enjoy a peaceful picnic whilst soaking up the supurb views and wonderful sounds of Loch Ness. Walk up on easily marked trails through Farigaig Forest for  views of Loch Ness from the rocky crags above the cottage. Take an easy hike to the small tranquil lochan up in the forest and gaze at the amazing reflection in the water and take a breather on the picnic bench provided by the forestry. There are so many local walks from the doorstep so do leave the car behind and get those legs working.
