Aspenwood Cottage is situated in the small village of Inverfarigaig on the southern shore of Loch Ness midway between Fort Augustus and the city of Inverness, capital of the Highlands.

If travelling to Inverfarigaig from Fort William via the A82 the last oportunity for shops and petrol can be found in the village of Fort Augustus - small general stores, butchers P.O. etc. - approx. 16 miles from Inverfarigaig and the last petrol station before Inverness. Take the time to wander by the side of the Caledonian Canal and watch the various boating craft go through the stepped lock gates taking them from Loch Ness to Loch Oich.
If approaching Inverfarigaig via the A9 or A96 many supermarkets and shops are to be found in and around Inverness which is approx. 16 miles from Inverfarigaig.
Tesco shop Inverness The large Tesco Extra Superstore is open 24 hours and is approx. 20 miles from Inverfarigaig on the A96 Inverness to Nairn road. Petrol station on site. This is part of a shopping complex including Boots, Homebase, Comet, Argos, Pet City etc. Also on site is a Warner Village Cinema and various eateries. Inverness Airport is located about 6 miles from this store off the A96 Inverness to Nairn road.

The older part of Inverness is precincted with a variety of shops including a Marks and Spencers and is a bustling place in the tourist season especially if the piper is playing. A smaller Tesco is approx. 17 miles from Inverfarigaig at the Inshes roundabout opposite Raigmore General Hospital and the Police Headquarters. Petrol station on site. Open 24 hours. A large Morrisons store is on the Millburn Road in the centre of Inverness next to the new Eastgate Shopping Centre. Eastgate Shopping Centre has easy underground parking and all the usual shops associated with a complex. Plenty of places to eat here.

The nearest local shop to Inverfarigaig is about 3 miles away in the village of Foyers opposite the famousFoyers shop  Falls of Foyers. Small general store with P.O. Red Squirrel Cafe.
Another small shop and family run Inverarnie Stores great friendly shoppingbusiness can be found at Inverarnie near Farr - a newsagent, licensed grocer. This is open 7 days a week and is about 15 miles from Inverfarigaig on the B851 Inverfarigaig to  Daviot road. Always an enjoyable journey so keep your eyes open for the various wild life on the ground and in the air. If travelling on the A9 towards Inverness one can take the turning B851 at Daviot for a more scenic route .
