Aspenwood cottage is a luxury 4 star Quality Assured self catering cottage situated midway down the southern shore of Loch Ness in the Highlands of Scotland - about 16 miles from the city of Inverness and a similar distance from Fort Augustus. This unique cottage offers a quiet and secluded haven for a truly peaceful and relaxing holiday.

Loch NessLooking across Loch Ness you can clearly see the highest mountain peak on the lochside - Meall Fuar-mbonaidb - which is usually covered in snow during the winter months. This is the stunning panoramic view seen from the private decking accessed from both the master bedroom and comfortable, spacious lounge.

Aspenwood is strictly a non-smoking cottage and many visitors return because of this guarantee. Although the holiday cottage is situated in an unfenced and ungated environment we always welcome one well behaved pet. There are some wonderful walks for you and your dog from the doorstep of the cottage - whether it be through quiet forests or running along Loch Ness beach nearby. Walk up on easy marked trails through Farigaig forest for supurb views of Loch Ness from above.

Various wildlife abound in the woodland area around the cottage - you may be lucky enough to spot red squirrels , badgers, pine martens, brown hare, cheeky and a variety of deer. The bird table and bird bath with feeders is a very busy place. Binoculars and bird books and various wildlife books are available for your use. Watch out for the sparrowhawk and the fish-loving osprey from April through to late August and hopefully watch it dive into Loch Ness. Visit Boat of Garten Osprey centre especially in the breeding season. The nature reserve of Ruthven RSPB is a short drive away.Go and watch the dolphins and seals in the Moray Firth at Chanonry Point on the Black Isle.

Come and watch the sun set from the comfort of the lounge or sit out on the decking with a wee dram at the end of the day.  In view of the woodland location of Aspenwood we do not allow the use of barbeques at all.

wild primrosesDuring late March and all through April the forest floors and roadside verges are covered with wild primroses.

Aspenwood luxury self catering holiday cottage is an ideal romantic destination and offers a unique sense of seclusion and the ability to escape.
